Brief Description

Introduction to the use of video, sound, animation, graphics, text and other sensory input delivered by computer, to facilitate interaction with information and experiences relating to all aspects of human endeavour.

Indicative Syllabus

The module will investigate the use of media-capture hardware such as digital cameras and digital video cameras together with the software for content acquisition and media manipulation and editing for input to various authoring software. Students will have the opportunity to design a product from a client brief.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. understand the requirements of a specification for a digital media product,
  2. appreciate the need for constructing a structured representation of a product during the design phase,
  3. value the need for assessing the quality of media and the usability of the product from the users point of view,
  4. understand the implications of digital approaches to the representation of media, with particular reference to the need for compression techniques,
  5. understand the legal and ethical aspects of digital media capture and editing.     
  6. utilise a range of information search techniques to provide evidence for their work using Harvard referencing.
