Brief Description

This module aims to provide students with the key knowledge and understanding to support their professional and legal responsibilities to children. 

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

 

the legal knowledge and understanding required for work;

Child Protection training to ensure students are competent and capable to safeguard children especially vulnerable children;

First Aid training to ensure students are able to provide for the health and safety of the children with whom they are working;

Common Assessment Framework (CAF) training to ensure students are working as a key part of delivering early frontline services that are integrated and focused around the needs of children and young people.

Certification for each training experience is awarded where a student has attended 100%.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:...

 

1. Demonstrate and articulate a deeper knowledge of their legal responsibilities and duties in relation to current legislation;

2. Evidence a deeper knowledge and understanding about child protection and supporting the most vulnerable children, including policies and procedures within settings;

3. Demonstrate clear skills in First Aid to ensure that they can assist in situations within the workplace, understanding the difference between risk and hazard management;

4. Evidence a deeper knowledge and understanding about CAF to ensure they can support appropriate assessments of children in need;

5. Demonstrate the ability to deal with complex situations involving children, parents and carers, and other agencies;

6. Demonstrate enhanced professional attributes such as confidentiality, ethical practice, respect and honesty.
