Brief Description | This module aims to instil the concept of children as competent learners through an examination of developmentally appropriate practices with children between the ages of 0 – 8 years. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module will cover the following topics:
developmentally appropriate practice; the attributes of a competent learner and explores how these skills can be fostered within an enabling environment; the development of dispositions to learning; the relationship between areas of learning as defined by current government legislation; how ICT can support children’s learning; the promotion of inclusion and meeting of individual needs. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to:... 1. Analyse and articulate how children learn in a range of subjects whilst demonstrating understanding of the holistic nature of child development; 2. Evaluate the effectiveness of approaches to facilitating learning as part of developmentally appropriate practice and curriculum; 3. Critically reflect on the role of practitioners in supporting learning and planning developmentally appropriate practice and curriculum; 4. Demonstrate a deeper knowledge of government legislation and initiatives in relation to areas of learning and curriculum; 5. Evaluate strategies for inclusive practice and meeting the individual needs of all children; 6. Engage in collaborative active learning and academic discourse relating to approaches to facilitating learning, key curricula and implications for professional practice. |
