Brief Description

The module aims to extend students understanding about holistic child development and care through an examination of young children’s wellbeing.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will cover the following topics:

 

children’s wellbeing in relation to recent government and European policy; curriculum guidelines, health initiatives and theoretical perspectives;

the concept of wellbeing including emotional, social, physical and mental wellbeing;

health promotion and promoting a healthy environment; strategies to communicate and promote wellbeing with parents and carers.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:...

 

1. Identify and analyse factors that promote children’s wellbeing;

2. Know how to, and articulate the importance of working with parents, carers and other professionals to promote children’s wellbeing;

3. Demonstrate detailed knowledge of current government and European policy underpinning children’s wellbeing;

4. Apply appropriate theoretical models to appropriate health promotion;

5. Analyse and evaluate information from literature, government initiatives and related websites and utilise this with reference to health promotion;

6. Adapt interpersonal and communication skills to a wide audience.
