Brief Description | This is an opportunity for students to carry out a significant research study on a negotiated topic. Research methods utilised may range from field experiments, survey work, and observation, to discourse analysis, analysis of secondary data, and historical research. Students design and conduct a substantial study and present a final report. Students are matched with advisors who have knowledge of the specific topic under investigation. |
Indicative Syllabus | Students will be allocated a tutor with experience in the area of interest and an agreed title for the investigation will be formulated. Students will: a) prepare a poster on the literature review and intended methodology. b) undertake an investigation. c) write a report on the investigation |
Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and Understanding By the end of the module students should have an increased knowledge and understanding of a chosen area in Criminology. ii. Skills Students will be able to identify, justify and evaluate the use of appropriate research styles and enquiry methods in a context of criminological enquiry. Students will be able to gather evidence in a systematic and rigorous manner and to use it to critically evaluate theoretical Students will develop a critical approach towards theory and methodology. |
