Brief Description

The module introduces students to contemporary developments in relation to the role of the victim in the criminal justice system in England and Wales.

Indicative Syllabus 1. Assess the extent of crime in contemporary England and Wales
2. Consider the impact of crime on its victims
3. Consider the role of the victim in the criminal justice process

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of the module students should be able to:
1)  Demonstrate an understanding of basic victimological concepts and models
2) Analyse victimological evidence and data3) Critically argue an issue relating to victims of crime



ii. Skills
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
1) Critically assess the effectiveness of government policy in relation to victims of crime in a written argument
2) Critically assess the effectiveness of government policy in relation to victims of crime in a presentation
3) Exhibit advanced skills in the independent search and retrieval of information from a variety of sources.
