It is the student's responsibility to seek out appropriate information and advice in advance of preparing an Independent Study proposal, and to prepare a proposal in accordance with the module outline. 2. A deadline for receipt from students of the proposal of an Independent Study programme will be published in the Course Handbook. Normally, this will be no later than the end of week 2 of the semester within which the Independent Study is to be conducted. 3. A sub-committee of the Course Board of Studies will consider for approval the proposals submitted. Their approval will be guided by the module tutor and the Course Leader. Particular attention will be paid to the relationship between proposed independent study learning outcomes, assessment, Postgraduate Level Descriptors and programme learning outcomes. Normally, the sub-committee will meet no later than the end of week 3 of the semester. 4. Agreed contracts for Independent Study will be recorded on the proposal form and retained for purposes of audit. 5. All proposals and learning contracts are provisional until approval is given by the Course Board of Studies. Students may be required to drop the module by the usual Module Registration Change deadline if they fail to obtain approval. 6. The student's work will be assessed with respect to the learning outcomes approved. |
