Brief Description | The module facilitates students to identify and develop a proposal utilising digital technology to solve a practical problem or develop a novel application. The type of project is flexible, but must include a user interface and be approved by the module tutor before it is undertaken. It can include a primary research investigation, but should focus on the identification and preliminary design of a software product (e.g. application or web-site) or physical product utilising digital technology. Emphasis will be placed upon Interface Design, HCI and Usability principles and their relevance to the application. The proposal should be developed to a point where it and a prototype can be presented to a potential funder. |
Indicative Syllabus | Usability principles and evaluation A workshop will be held to prepare students to undertake a suitable enterprise and innovative project. The workshop will clarify the monitoring process at different stages of the project and specify the product poster presentation.

Learning Outcomes | By the end of the module it is intended that students will be able to: 1. Critically evaluate a practical problem or creative idea and potential solutions requiring selection from a wide range of advanced techniques and information sources, accepting accountability for related decision making; 2. Employ advanced skills to conduct underpinning research; 3. Outline the importance of user-centred design in computer interfaces, taking into account usability and accessibility issues. 4. Critically evaluate a product via assessment of its functionality, utility and usability. 5. Prepare and submit a coherent and feasible final proposal and communicate this effectively through a poster presentation |
