Brief Description | The module covers aspects of Information Systems (IS) and Information Technologies (IT) including web-based technologies, information systems, their applications and management, business strategy and IT/e-business strategy and business intelligence (data warehouse and data mining). Software and IS application development will also be addressed, with a focus on how to increase the success rates of software application development and how to integrate IT/e-business strategy to enhance business performance. The management of system security, ethical, structural, social and political issues, the relationship between people and information systems and information system activity organisation and green IT will also be addressed. Some KTP projects undertaken by the Department will be used as case studies to provide the students a chance of practical applications of IT/IS management. |
Indicative Syllabus | 1. Information technology and Web-based technology; 2. Information systems, their applications and management, 3. Business strategy, IT/e-business strategy and business intelligence (data warehouse and data mining). 4. Analysis of user requirements, integration of business activities and information systems, implication of IT on economic and social development, IT service (outsourcing) and Green IT. 5. The management of system security, ethical, structural, social and political issues. 6. The relationship between people and information systems and information system activity organisation 7. Software and IS application development focussing on how to increase the success rates of software application development and how to integrate IT/e-business strategy to enhance business performance. Some KTP projects undertaken by the Department will be used for case studies to provide the students with examples of practical applications of IT and IS management. |
