Brief Description The success of e-Business systems depends on the integration of several components, typically database, web pages and scripting elements. This module provides an opportunity for students to build, test and evaluate a small e-Business system.
Indicative Syllabus MVC (Model View Controller) design patterns. Integrity issues including validation and session control. Transactions and concurrency. Automated testing. Delivery platforms and portability.
Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module, the student should be able to:

  1. understand the potential strengths and weaknesses of a system built on the infrastructure of the World Wide Web.
  2. analyse a simple business problem and design a web-based implementation
  3. build and test a system using client-side and server-side scripts.
  4. evaluate the design against recognised design patterns.
  5. evaluate the implementation with respect to the business needs, such as integrity, security and privacy.


Learning and Teaching Activities Approximately 30 hours staff/student contact, 70 hours of directed study and 100 hours of independent study
