Brief Description | A component of the CO field's central theme of Software Development. A broad understanding of at least some elements of the software development process is therefore required. This module considers a number of issues that need to be addressed by anyone involved in the management of software development. It looks at the quality problems faced by software managers and critically examines current solution strategies. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module is concerned with the foundations of software quality assurance - its management and measurement in business. |
Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and Understanding By the end of the module, students should be able to: a) discriminate between the multiple aspects of software quality, b) refer to a variety of process models and be able to critically evaluate software process improvement schemes, c) critically evaluate a software quality system, d) reflect on the need for culture change and understand the role of the manager in implementing culture change, e) judge the appropriateness of available metrics, covering the products and processes of information systems development. ii. Skills Communication and literacy will be addressed through developing the assessments. Problem solving will be addressed throughout the module, as the whole point of its content is to develop approaches to the resolution of the problem of developing poor quality software business. Independent learning and working will be required to successfully research for the assessments. Working with others will be addressed as the module is about the problems associated with the management of the development process. ICT skills will be required to develop the assessment. Vocational skills will be enhanced through the ability to manage the development of high quality software. |
