Brief Description | This module focuses on key management skills. It enables students to reflect on their learning needs, build on and develop a range of management skills for personal, professional and career development. |
Indicative Syllabus | Induction into the expectations of the learning approach(s) being adopted. Assessment and evaluation of learning capabilities and preferences, identification of current and future managerial skills, personal and professional development planning, analysis of personal and inter-personal skills. The module facilitates the development of participants in order to become more effective learners, managers and decision makers and assess the value of experiential learning. |
Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and Understanding By the end of the module, students should be able to:a) Critically evaluate and review their own preferences for learning and self-developmentb) Assess personal current strengths and areas for improvement in relation to management skills c) Work collaboratively with others to undertake development of a range of management skills d) Assess current personal communication effectiveness and create an action plan for future development in this area e) Identify, develop and evaluate your chosen skills in the context of current literature ii. Skills By the end of the module, students should have developed skills in:a) Communication and literacy b) Independent learning and working c) Research techniques ¿ using a range of sources d) Working with others / team work e) Specific skills in relation to the management of a range of interpersonal skills , self-development planning and review, objective/goal setting and evaluation of performance f) Supporting the development of others g) Portfolio development in areas relating academic knowledge, thinking and skills to practice h) Demonstrate the capacity for continuing professional development |
