Brief Description

The module requires students to undertake a research project which focuses on hands-on employability skills which are gained through writing a critical article for a particular publication on a writer or group of writers; a translation or adaptation project; or a period of work related internship such as an editorial internship with a journal or in arts administration.

Indicative Syllabus

Students will undertake research projects which reflect their interests or plans for future careers. They will meet for seminars in small research clusters related to their projects. These will broadly be criticism based, translation based, adaptation based or placement based. Seminars will be used as a forum to discuss research, practical skills and issues surrounding their project. These seminars will be led by one of the team of academics with special interest in each of the project areas.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

1. successfully engage with a critical, creative or placement project and see it through to completion.
2. synthesise a range of critical, theoretical and writerly approaches applicable to their work
3. analyse and evaluate ways in which practical skills related to employment are enhanced.
