Brief Description | This module provides an opportunity for further specialisation in corporate responsibility, taking into consideration the global responsibility agenda promoted by organisations such as the UN Global Compact and EFMD. The module invites students to critically assess the role and obligations of companies and business leaders in a global stakeholder society and the moral and ethical implications of operating in global environments. The role of business in relation to the ‘global common good’ and the scope for business leaders to ‘act as agents for world change’ are amongst some of the themes that will be explored. |
Indicative Syllabus | The module uses a combination of lectures, seminar discussions and guest speakers to critically analyse the concepts of corporate global responsibility (CGR) and globally responsible leadership (leadership for CGR) and their application in contemporary business settings. Themes to be explored include, inter alia: the 'business case' for CGR; revisiting the purpose of the firm, business and the global common good; the dimensions of ethical and responsible leadership, including the individual capabilities, competences and virtues required to lead responsibly in a global context; leadership practices (individual and organisational) for successful CGR implementation; stakeholder engagement and dialogue in the context of CGR; and entrepreneurship for CGR. Public policy implications and the application of CGR in different contextual settings will also be examined, including public, private and third sectors. |
