Brief Description | This module is designed for those who wish to develop their study of financial management as part of a general management degree. It aims to provide students with a strategic understanding and appreciation of financial markets, the sources of finance and the cost of capital, capital investment appraisal, risk and valuation of shares and companies. The module aims to facilitate the acquisition by students of a balance of skills and knowledge including skills in applying quantitative techniques; the ability to interpret and explain the results of these calculations; the ability to critically evaluate the techniques and the capacity to relate these to the external contexts in which companies operate. |
Indicative Syllabus | Financial markets; Risk and project appraisal; Portfolio theory and the capital asset pricing model; Sources of capital; Cost of capital; Value based management; Valuation of shares and companies; Capital structure; Dividend policy. |
