Brief Description

The module considers the approach taken by economists to understanding the key features of the micro and the macro economy. This module will provide an overview of the main principles of economics as they apply to consumers, organisations, markets, and the wider economy.

Indicative Syllabus

This module will take students through the main topics of economics. Students will thus study a range of topics, including:

Demand

Supply

Profit Maximisation

Alternative Theories of the Firm

National Economy

Macroeconomic Issues

Fiscal and Monetary Policy

International Trade

Balance of Payments and Exchange Rates.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Evaluate complexity, change, ambiguity and other challenges arising from the economic environment as they affect business.  (PLO2
  2. Analyse pervasive and contemporary issues in business management arising from the economic environment.  (PLO3)
  3. Think logically, conceptually, and critically about the relationship between the economic environment and business.   (PLO4)
  4. Communicate effectively in writing and through presentations.  (PLO6)
