Brief Description | The module aims to explore existing theory and practice with regards to 'people resourcing'. Using the resource-based view of the firm, social exchange theory, and the agency/stakeholder theoretical perspective, this module also looks beyond practice into some consideration of the different philosophies that might be taken to staffing. Students will learn to both apply well known practices, and to critique their use based on academic theory in the discipline. |
Indicative Syllabus | Major approaches to job design in public, private and third sectors; policies and issues in employment markets; approaches to raising recruitment profile; the use of assessment centres; legal and ethical issues in selection; negotiating reward packages; promoting productivity; performance management; staff retention policies, and strategies to reduce turnover, across public, private and third sectors. |
