The module aims to develop an understanding of the concept of corporate responsibility: its origins and concerns, and its management and implementation in business organisation. The subject matter would explore the nature and scope of companies' responsibilities and way in which business organisation can manage their economic, environmental and social impacts and stakeholder relationships in their various spheres of activity and influence.

Principles of CR – CR Definitions, CR policies, Historical Development, Business Ethics

Processes of CR – Management of CR, CR strategy and sustainability and stakeholder engagement in private sector organisations

Outcomes of CR – Social reporting, Types of CR, Impact assessment in business organisations

CR and Global Issues – CR in the developing world, Governments and CR, Multinational Enterprises and CR

A student passing this module should be able to:

1. understand the principles and foundational constructs of CR (PLO 3)  
2. Evaluate alternative CR strategies and implementation methods with reference to: strategic and structural integration of CR; stakeholder engagement and management; sustainability and setting of codes and standards (PLO 1, 3)
3. Discuss the outcomes of organisational CR practices with reference to: social reporting, different types of CR activities, CR impact assessment (PLO 2, 3)
4. Develop critical thinking by examining and evaluating the practical application of CR within business organisations (PLO 4)
5. Engage in effective problem solving through analysis of case study material and communicate information effectively through active learning techniques (PLO 5, 6)
6. Work in teams through in class discussion, seminar presentations and group work (PLO 5)
