Brief Description |
This module evaluates the human resource management function, provides insight in to the relationship between HRM and other business functions, and enables students to examine how human resource related information informs a manager's decision making process. |
Indicative Syllabus |
- Human resource Management, its historic context, theories, practices, policies and operational pressures,
- Employee Resourcing - how to attain and retain appropriate people for the work we do in our organisations.
- Employee Development - examines how to develop people's skills and help wider growth to ensure they meet their potential in an organisation.
- Employee involvement and participation - deals with the way employers and employees communicate their concerns to one another.
- Employee Reward - looks at how we motivate our employees to perform. What is it that we give them that keeps them turning up for work and more than that, encourages them to be innovative and all the other things we want them to be.
- Setting Objectives in Business / Evaluating the HRM contribution: Approaches and Implementation
- The Flexible Firm / Newer organisational structures
- How human resource related information informs a manager's decision making process in private, public and/ or the third sector.

Learning Outcomes |
A student passing this module should be able to:
- Understand the key models and frameworks associated with HR and activities that are associated with the functions of HR (PLO 1).
- Describe the way these models and frameworks can be applied in practice (PLO 2).
- Understand the role of HR across the business and its interaction with other functions (PLO 1).
- Work effectively in small groups analyse and present material to the lecture group (PLO 5)
- Understand and solve human resources-related problems encountered in business (PLO 4).
