Brief Description

This module is designed to help first year students develop specific personal and professional skills required to become an effective manager. This module offers a selection of options from which students choose two.

Indicative Syllabus

You will make two choices from a list of activities including some of the following:

  1. Placement Preparation
  2. Key PC software applications
  3. Marketing Communications
  4. Business Maths
  5. Running an Interview
  6. Further presentation skills
  7. Trade Marketing
  8. How to be a Marketing Researcher
  9. Participation in a field trip
  10. Business in Film and Literature
  11. Research Project
Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Understand the personal and organisational value of thinking laterally and creatively. (PLO 4)
  2. Have a more fully-developed appreciation of the relationship between transferable skill acquisition and future employability. (PLO 1,5)
  3. Understand the key issues of skills in relation to practice. (PLO 4,5,6)
  4. Be able to identify the most appropriate sources of career opportunities. (PLO 1, 5)
  5. Acquire a grounding for the future study of business. (PLO 1,6)
