Brief Description

This module is designed to help first year students develop the personal and professional skills required to become an effective manager. This module will help students discover how a manager can learn, develop, work with others, and share what they know.

Indicative Syllabus
  1. Writing skills: developing effective arguments and writing in a structured way in reports, essays and reflective papers.
  2. Researching and referencing properly for reports.
  3. Presentation skills: giving informal and formal presentations to managers.  
  4. Critiquing reference material:  critically analysing sources such as books, journals, and case studies.
  5. Group work: working effectively with others, and supporting them in business projects.
  6. Reflection: on the learning achieved, and personal strengths and weaknesses which need to be addressed.
Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Think logically, critically and reflectively.    (PLO4)
  2. Work independently and effectively with others, in a professional manner.  (PLO5)
  3. Communicate effectively in writing and through presentations.  (PLO6)
  4. Critically evaluate personal development goals and achievements.  (PLO4)
  5. Undertake research and analyse findings in an appropriate way.  (PLO5)
