Brief Description This double module takes those skills in broadcast journalism developed at Level II and uses them as the basis for a full examination of the construction and delivery of live news bulletins, programmes and web pages. Working in shifts as members of news teams allocated with specific duties students will generate reactive and proactive material in the areas of radio, television and on-line throughout a week to demonstrate their professional abilities in news bulletin and programme production involving writing, reporting, presentation, editing and management
Indicative Syllabus The module will be production workshop based with students working in shifts to gather material for news bulletins and programmes for transmission in three formats to an agreed target audience. Students will be expected to demonstrate professional standard writing, editing and presentation skills. Designated a specific role a student will be expected to demonstrate an awareness of the importance of team-working and individual contributions make to the provision of news outlets and in the workplace High levels of organization, decision-making, editorial choices and news values will be required to achieve successful outcomes. Performance and content will be assessed on a daily basis by BJ staff and guest editors.
Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
On completion of the module students should be able to demonstrate that they have:
a) an advanced ability to construct consecutive news bulletins in the areas of radio, TV and on-line journalism
b) an advanced understanding of the generic similarities and specific differences within each mode of delivery
c) an advanced ability to deal with the pressures of professional practice in a working newsroom
d) an advanced understanding of the responsibilities of team work in a newsroom



ii. Skills
On completion of this module students should be able to demonstrate that they can:
a) research and prepare news material in different broadcast formats
b) present and deliver news bulletin material to set broadcast times and deadlines to a specific audience
c) submit material that legally and ethically correct
d) work as a team member to produce live broadcasting output
