Brief Description

This double module offers an opportunity to carry out a major journalism assignment for TV, radio or on-line transmission. Students will take part in a series of lectures, workshops and editorial meetings to prepare for the assignment which brings together the editorial, technical and production skills developed throughout the course.

Indicative Syllabus

In this module, students are required to initiate, research, produce and present an original in-depth news story for TV, radio or on-line.  Initial sessions will concentrate on how to find and develop a story.  Students will have to ‘pitch’ their chosen story to editorial meetings, in line with industry practice, before submitting a written proposal.  Risk assessment and compliance issues must been considered at this stage.  The nature and substance of the final report must also be agreed with the tutor before production begins.  Students will work independently to record, edit and present their stories.
