Brief Description This module aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to teach history, geography, ICT, Religious Education, physical education, art and music. The delivery of the module will be differentiated according to the route students take (3 - 7 or 5 - 11).
Indicative Syllabus

Art
On completion, students will understand the contribution art can make to the all round education and well-being of the learner; know a range of strategies for planning, teaching and assessment in art; be familiar with the elements of art and a range of basic processes and media.

History
Students will be introduced to a range of teaching and learning approaches in history. Individual sessions will focus on key historical skills and concepts and the use of particular historical source materials. Students will also be introduced to approaches to planning and assessment in history.

Geography
Students will develop their understanding of the principles and practice of primary geography teaching.  Their understanding of the importance of place in geography teaching, and the nature of geographical enquiry will be enhanced. Students will be introduced to a range of teaching and learning approaches in geography.

Design and Technology
Students will be able to critically evaluate the range of teaching and learning approaches that characterise successful DT teaching. Students will be introduced to a range of DT themes commonly pursued used within schools. They will explore how investigative and disassembly work, focussed skills lead pupils towards successful designing and making.

Music
During the 5 sessions, students are given the opportunity to increase their repertoire of songs, develop vocal technique, extend their musical tastes through listening to different musical styles and genres, compose using instruments, use music as both an holistic and discrete subject within the workplace, become familiar with instruments and to play the guitar to a useful to accompany school singing.

Physical Education
Students will be introduced to an explicit ethos and practice related to equity, equality of entitlement, opportunity and access to physical education by all children. A developmental approach will be introduced and developed as it is recognised as being significant and influential in helping teachers to recognise and respond to the individual and diverse learning needs of children related to their movement skill development, health, fitness and well-being. The significance of an inclusive understanding on teaching and learning will be introduced and developed.

Religious Education
Students will develop their understanding of world faiths and the principles and practice of teaching religious education in the primary school.  The promotion of children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development will be explored.  SMSC, PSHCE and equal opportunities including SEN will be addressed.

1)       The knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to these subject areas for pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stages 1 and 2
2)       The relationship between the Programmes of Study and Attainment Targets (at Key Stages 1 & 2)
3)       Understand the nature of ICT, Foundation Subjects and RE as powerful tools for learning effectively across subjects

2)       Assess pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills in the subject

4)       Make informed links between subject areas.
