Brief Description This module aims to provide students with an understanding of approaches to the teaching of Knowledge and Understanding of the World at Early Years Foundation Stage, and selected KS1 and KS2 NC History Breadth of Study units.
Indicative Syllabus The module will focus on a number of Early Years Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2 units of work. Each unit will be taught over several sessions, in ways which model how the units should be taught with primary school learners. Each unit will encompass a sequence of activities that will address some of the knowledge, skills and understanding statements in the NC orders for history. There will be opportunities in this module for the students to explore the potential of out of school contexts for historical learning.
Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding
1)   Knowledge and understanding of the main developments, events and people related to particular periods in the past
2)   Knowledge about methods of historical enquiry and approaches relevant to different classes of evidence
3)   Knowledge and understanding of teaching approaches that are appropriate for EYFS, KS1 and 2 and which promote the learners’ development and well being.
4)   Knowledge and understanding of the use of out of school contexts for historical learning and the associated health and safety issues

1)   Plan sequences of activities which promote historical learning
2)   Assess the learner's historical learning
