Brief Description The module is designed to build on students’ knowledge of Christianity and other world faiths, so that they can plan, implement, assess and evaluate pupils’ learning, in accordance with national and local policy.  The module will enhance students’ awareness of the centrality of ECM outcomes and SMSC development in primary education.
Indicative Syllabus This module is designed to meet 4 aims:

To foster understanding of the nature of religion and the aims of religious education in school;
To develop understanding of how children develop religious concepts;
To encourage the formation of a conceptual framework through which programmes in religious education for children can be developed;
To explore recent developments in RE within the school curriculum, and to give students an understanding of the legal requirements for Religious Education and Collective Worship in schools
Learning Outcomes Knowledge and Understanding:
1)       A knowledge of the legal requirements regarding RE and Collective Worship;
2)       Familiarity with the areas of attainment commonly included in Agreed Syllabuses, and means of assessing these areas;
3)       An understanding of a range of learning and teaching strategies for effective religious education, including the use of ICT;
4)       A secure knowledge of aspects of Christianity and other principal world religious traditions represented in Great Britain.



Skills:
1)       The  production of schemes of work and lesson plans that incorporate learning and teaching strategies to promote differentiation and progression;
2)       Demonstrate sensitivity towards the religious experience of children, their well-being and their moral, cultural, social and spiritual development;
3)       Demonstrate enhanced skills of analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
