| Brief Description | This module aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to plan, teach and assess Religious Education (RE). There is a particular emphasis on effective cross curricular planning and planning for progression. During this module there will be opportunities for students to work with children in order to explore the principles of inclusion in practice. |
| Indicative Syllabus | 1. Exploration of key aspects of RE subject knowledge (Sikhism, Buddhism), including independent student enquiry and research 2. Conceptual enquiry in the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 3. Creative and challenging approaches to the teaching of RE 4. Planning cross curricular units of work that promote good progress and outcomes by pupils in relation to the non-statutory guidance and locally agreed syllabus in RE 5. Providing effective learning opportunities for all pupils, with a focus on an understanding of the three principles of inclusion: - setting suitable learning challenges - responding to pupils’ diverse learning needs - overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils |
| Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1. have a knowledge and understanding of the non-statutory national guidance and locally agreed syllabus for RE 2. have an understanding of the underlying concepts and principles that define the distinctive nature of the subject and demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject 3. have a secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas 4. know how to plan and teach well-structured sequences of lessons in cross curricular units of work that promote good progress and outcomes by pupils in relation to the non-statutory guidance and the locally agreed syllabus for RE 5. recognise the benefits and challenges of cross curricular approaches to teaching and learning 6. be aware of pupils’ capabilities and their prior knowledge, and plan teaching to build on these 7. know and understand how to assess pupils’ work in RE and know how to make use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils’ progress 8. know how to respond to underachievement by overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils |
