Brief Description | The module aims: to further enhance and extend the core training that the trainees will receive in the primary curriculum; to further improve and enhance trainees’ existing language skills (in a target language); to explore the pedagogy of teaching foreign languages; to broaden and deepen the trainees’ pedagogical understanding of the teaching and learning of a target language as a foreign language; to further enhance trainees’ intercultural understanding. |
Indicative Syllabus | Linguistic skills in a target language; teaching strategies in primary languages for oracy, literacy, knowledge about languages, language learning strategies and intercultural understanding; planning; assessment; reflective practice. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the KS 2 languages framework 2. To plan and implement lessons in Primary Languages. 3. To evaluate lessons in Primary Languages. 4. Demonstrate an increased awareness of a target language speaking country’s culture 5. Demonstrate how intercultural understanding can be used to put language into context, and reflect this in their teaching 6. Be able to recognise underachievement and respond positively and appropriately to individual and diverse learning needs through the planning, teaching, assessment and evaluation of the subject across all learners 7. Demonstrate and evidence increased linguistic skills in a target language beyond Level B1 of the Languages Ladder 8. Be able to recognise underachievement and respond positively and appropriately to individual and diverse learning needs through the planning, teaching, assessment and evaluation of the subject across all learners |
