| Brief Description | This module aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to plan, teach and assess art, DT, geography, history, primary languages, music, RE, PE and PSHCE, ICT. There will be opportunities in this module to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding in relation to one of the foundation subjects. |
| Indicative Syllabus | 1. Introduction to the statutory curriculum requirements 2. Explanation and exemplification of the distinctive nature of the subject 3. Introduction to key aspects of subject knowledge, skills and understanding 4. Introduction to key teaching and learning approaches 5. Lesson planning More in-depth study in one subject will address the following topics: 1. Opportunities to develop in-depth subject knowledge, skills and understanding 2. Focused observation and assessment 3. Exploration of the teaching strategies that impact on pupils’ learning 4. Evaluation of teaching and learning 5. Development of a creative and constructively critical approach towards innovation Development of an understanding of inclusive values and knowledge of how to interpret the Programmes of Study appropriately for a diversity of learning needs, in order to access all children to learning in the subject |
| Learning Outcomes | In each subject students should: 1. have a knowledge and understanding of the statutory curriculum requirements along with the necessary skills to enable their implementation 2. have an understanding of the underlying concepts and principles that define the distinctive nature of the subject and its pedagogy 3. have a secure knowledge of the relevant subjects and curriculum areas, and know how to foster and maintain pupils’ interest in the subject 4. know how to plan and teach well-structured lessons (in a defined area of the syllabus) During in-depth study students should: 1. demonstrate secure knowledge, skills and understanding in the relevant subject 2. know and understand how to assess the selected subject 3. critically reflect systematically on the effectiveness of approaches to teaching |
