Brief Description | This module requires the student to undertake a period of ministerial experience which will be (in most cases) their normal area of ministry. The student will develop a learning agreement in consultation with the Module Tutor and any senior minister they are responsible to, which will clarify the professional skills and knowledge that the student is expected to develop though the ministerial experience, within the parameters identified below (Content Summary). Each agreement will specify the learning support required and the time expected to completion (which will be between two and three years). |
Indicative Syllabus | This module requires the student and Module Tutor to draw up a learning agreement in the light of the student’s ministerial situation to clarify the specific skills and knowledge that are to be acquired during the ministerial experience and subsequently. These will be drawn from the following areas (but will in any case include experience of a range of pastoral situations, communication, and the leading of worship): • The mapping of the parish/ministerial setting and comparison of congregation with local social indicators • Pastoral visiting • Ministry to the dying and care of the bereaved • Rites of passage: baptism/dedication, marriage, funerals • Developing appropriate liturgy • Adult education • Understanding organisations and change • Hospital ministry • The role of the child in church • Ministry in schools • Evangelism • Implicit religion • Ministry outside of the congregation • Knowledge transfer from previous or current careers or employment This list is neither exclusive nor prescriptive: differing ministerial situations will offer opportunities for differing areas of learning. The church or other ministerial organisation that the student ministers in will be asked to prepare a statement on the student's performance, and this will be taken into consideration by the Module Tutor in assessing the outcome of the student's experience. |
