Brief Description | This placement will take place while the student is already engaged in professional authorised or licensed ministry and will involve a placement of (at least) eight weeks (part-time) or four weeks (full time) to a local church or institution significantly different from the student's own. It is an opportunity to further develop ministerial skills, critically reflect on current and future ministry and discern strengths and weaknesses in ministerial practice. |
Indicative Syllabus | This Placement will cover: a) discussion with members of staff organising the placement; b) briefing and discussion with Placement Supervisor and the drawing up of a working agreement; c) at least sixty hours contact time in the placement; d) weekly meetings with the Supervisor; e) keeping a placement diary and using support documents or equivalent; f) taking part in a final seminar in which students present what they have learned and reflect on their experience. |
Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and Understanding On successful completion of this module students will have: a) understood issues of ministry and practice in a sphere of ministry different from their own; b) a greater awareness of the different ways of understanding the nature of ministerial presence, function and responsibilities; c) deepened and broadened their understanding of leadership in faith communities. ii. Skills On successful completion of this module students will: a) have developed new ministerial skills and reflected on their strengths and weaknesses; b) have demonstrated mature critical ability in reflecting on their theological understanding and sense of values when faced with the practical ministry; c) have grown in their personal self-understanding; d) have improved their interpersonal skills from building relationships with staff, and other members of the wider community; e) have shown significant increase in their ability to exercise ministry in new contexts; f) be able to exercise ministerial leadership with confidence in an unfamiliar setting; g) be able to reflect theologically with critical rigour on their own ministerial experience and the practice of other professionals. |
