Brief Description

This module gives an opportunity for students to study independently a topic in applied theology, undertake some guided research of relevance to their ministry or other professional activity.

Indicative Syllabus

Students can pursue a topic not covered at all, or not covered in the same manner or depth, elsewhere in the Applied Theology Course.

Content will depend upon the choice of topic, which will be decided through consultation with the module tutor/APT Course Leader, and which will fall within the Learning Outcomes of the Course.

The topic should not be related closely to an existing module available that year.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module students should be able to demonstrate that they:
a) have significantly advanced their knowledge and critical understanding of a topic in Applied Theology
b) have a greater level of understanding in relation to the agreed area of their study, and be able to see how it related to other similar issues and debates.
c) can relate their study to ministerial or other professional practice



ii. Skills
On completion of the module students should be able to demonstrate that they:
a) have improved their ability to read and assess complex material, and respond to it an a critical and rigorous manner
b) have been able to work independently and make critical decisions about the use of resources.

Learning and Teaching Activities

Independent study (with tutorial support): 100%.
(After an introductory session, the contact between tutor and student and the methods of teaching and assessment are negotiable)
