Brief Description |
This module provides opportunities for students to develop knowledge, critical insight and skills to undertake physical examination of body systems using diagnostic reasoning skills and to make informed differential diagnosis within a chosen field of clinical speciality. |
Indicative Syllabus |
The module will examine: a) Client centred approaches in autonomous practice. b) Theoretical approaches and skills to carry out holistic health assessment and examination. c) Diagnostic reasoning skills. d) Criteria for referral for investigations. e) Treatment options and referral to appropriate specialists. f) Planning competent care, assessing and evaluation of effectiveness of treatment provided. g) Critical exploration and reflection of practice. h) History taking |
Learning Outcomes |
i. Knowledge and Understanding
On successful completion of the module the student will be able to: a) Critically analyse the professional’s role in autonomous assessment/clinical examination and diagnosis; b) Critically evaluate and implement frameworks of holistic health assessment; c) Appraise evidence-based approaches, ensuring they are up to date, in the students own practice area; d) Demonstrate a critical, evidence based approach to undertaking holistic health assessment and clinical examination; e) Analyse ethical and legal issues informing advanced professional practice; f) Undertake physical examinations and history taking, interpret test results, to define what is normal or abnormal , to determine a differential diagnosis; ii. Skills On successful completion of the module the student will be able to: a) Employ advanced communication skills in partnership with clients, their family, their carers and other health professionals;Interpretation of clinical data; b) Employ and evidenced based approach to learning and assessment.
