Brief Description | This module supports practitioners working in health and social care settings to make work based learning explicit for the purpose of achieving academic credit. It recognises that learning takes place in a variety of settings and, via the development of an analytical and reflective approach, supports practitioners to evidence the links they have made between their practice and appropriate underpinning theory. |
Indicative Syllabus | What is learning; the analysis and application of individual learning styles and opportunities, evidencing learning from experience; the relationship between theory and practice. |
Learning Outcomes | i. Knowledge and Understanding By the end of the module students should be able to: a) Analyse their learning style. b) Recognise and reflect on learning opportunities in practice. c) Document and make explicit the learning that has resulted from the practice based experiences. ii. Skills There will be an emphasis on the development of skills in: a) Self assessment and personal and professional developmental planning. b) The recognition and exploitation of learning opportunities. c) Reflective writing and portfolio development skills |
Learning and Teaching Activities | This module represents 150 hours of student effort. Normally this will be allocated as follows:- Staff student contact circa 10% (to include: workshops and group tutorials) and individual email tutorial support. Student independent study circa 90% (to include: practice based learning experiences, learning sets, student directed learning, assignment preparation) May also include a blended learning approach through technological assisted delivery |
