Brief Description

This module aims to inspire advanced application and exploration of contemporary digital imaging practices and examine the impact and importance of new media in professional image making.

Indicative Syllabus

Advanced exploration of current developments in digital imaging practices and their creative potential for photographers. Lead lectures exploring the changing roles of technology and photography and the commercial application of new digital technology and methodologies.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to

 

1) have an advanced comprehensive understanding of current digital technology and methodology within professional photographic practice and their applications within editorial and advertising photography.

 

2) demonstrate a high level of independent creative thinking, ideas generation and problem solving to meet a defined brief and deadline. To make informed judgments and opinions of your own and other’s work and reflect on past learning and undertake personal skills audits and skills action planning.

 

3) understand the professional relationship between client and photographer and demonstrate the ability to understand the impact and importance of new media in image making, evidenced through students' supporting research and analysis.

 

4) apply advanced technical skills, critical and creative judgment to select the appropriate cameras, lighting equipment and use the relevant advanced digital workflow to successfully meet the requirements of a commission.

 

5) demonstrate excellent self –motivation / direction, time keeping and presentation skills. To develop confidence and research skills, strong communication skills and take an active part in class debates

 

6) fully understand their potential career and graduate progressions and demonstrate a sound knowledge of personal attributes, skills and abilities as they relate to professional employment or freelance employment.
