Brief Description | This project is structured to reflect the real and professional demands, scope and technical requirements of producing editorial illustration; i.e. illustration for publication in magazines, books and journals for print. Students will respond to a given text and produce rough ideas and finished artwork files to a schedule and with consideration of print and reproduction issues, technique and appropriateness for purpose and format |
Indicative Syllabus | - Students will be given a short text, with an indicative brief outlining a methodology by which original narrative solutions will be generated. The initial period of intensive idea generation will be accompanied by a series of workshops in Adobe InDesign, four-colour process printing, imposition, pagination, collation and binding of Olio magazine, and related issues such as colour reproduction on print- (CMYK) and screen(RGB) -based media. The ideas will be presented in a real-time, experiential context in a ‘commission by client’ role play. The student will be assessed on their professional attitude and conduct, correct technical presentation and their original, appropriate and resolved editorial illustrations, rendered in a technique suitable for CMYK print production. |

Critically examine and analyse the cultural and professional context and requirements of contemporary editorial Illustration practice. 2.
