Brief Description

For Graphic Designers the design portfolio is an extension of their personality. It can reveal a lot about the designer as a person, it can reflect their skills and knowledge base and it can also reveal the type of designer he or she may be at the time of presentation of their self-initiated design projects. The student can explore any visual outcome to communicate their creative ideas. The range of projects will depend on their choice of pathway into employment; their personal enquiries, boarder research and creative concepts will demonstrate the creativity and studio skills required for the creative industries. The students will also explore creative and marketing strategies utilizing and understanding the complexity of the emerging digital and new media communication channels. Students are encouraged to direct their own career opportunities by using their entrepreneurial skills to produce ideas, services, products and publications. This module aims to encourage students to undertake an extensive range of practical projects that will form the major part of their final portfolio. The design and presentation of their portfolio work should demonstrate their individual unique creative difference and to build new confidence to discuss their work in a professional and engaging manner.

Indicative Syllabus p>The module aims to discuss and develop the form, strategy, structure and production of their graphic design portfolio. Through a timetable of tutorials, students will be asked to identify their own strengths as a graphic designer and explore, compare and contrast their practical work with contemporary and historic examples of excellent practice.
