Brief Description | The module aim is to provide experience upon which students can make informed judgments about their creative development. The module provides the opportunity for each second year student to begin to establish a chosen area or areas of Photographic Practice and to begin to build their portfolio. |
Indicative Syllabus | Through a series of briefs students will explore a range of different photographic disciplines before undertaking a negotiated independent study project or projects to produce a body of practical work. Students will be expected to negotiate, and thereafter initiate their Independent Study project(s) with the advice of the module tutor. This will conclude with the production of an individual portfolio and an end of module exhibition. |
Learning Outcomes | By the end of the module students should be able to achieve and demonstrate that they have:
1) A comprehensive understanding of the various applications of creative editorial and advertising photography as a means of communication, including its historic context and the work of contemporary practitioners. Understand the arguments and debates over the ethics, impact and importance of new media. 2) Independent creative thinking, ideas generation and problem solving to meet a defined brief and deadline. To make informed judgments and opinions of your own and other’s work and reflect on past learning and undertake personal skills audits and skills action planning. 3) Contemporary professional methods of presentation, self- promotion, marketing and syndication including the production of a professional portfolio and organising exhibitions, including press releases, catalogues, archiving and sales. 4) Excellent self –motivation / direction, time keeping and presentation skills. To develop confidence and research skills, strong communication skills and take an active part in class debates. 5) Potential career and graduate progressions and demonstrate a sound knowledge of personal attributes, skills and abilities as they relate to professional employment or freelance employment. |
