Brief Description

This module aims to inspire exploration of contemporary digital imaging practices and examine their application in professional photography.

Indicative Syllabus

Building on the skills established in AD4742 (Introduction to Digit Manipulated & Moving Image), students are encouraged to further explore and develop the creative and technical applications of contemporary digital image making. Students will creatively apply technical skills and knowledge in the realisation of their own visual concepts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module students should be able to achieve and demonstrate that they have further developed:

 

1) A comprehensive understanding of the use of digital imaging practices in contemporary professional photography. Understand the arguments and debates over the ethics, impact and importance of new media. and an overview of the work of contemporary practitioners.

2) Independent creative thinking, ideas generation and problem solving to meet a defined brief and deadline. To make informed judgments and opinions of your own and other’s work and reflect on past learning and undertake personal skills audits and skills action planning.

3) a working knowledge of digital hardware and software and be able to use digital software to retouch and composite images creatively to a high standard.

Be able to apply your advanced technical skills, critical and creative judgment to select the appropriate cameras, lighting equipment and use the relevant advanced digital workflow to successfully meet the requirements of a commission.

4) Excellent self –motivation / direction, time keeping and presentation skills. To develop confidence and research skills, strong communication skills and take an active part in class debates.

5) Potential career and graduate progressions and demonstrate a sound knowledge of personal attributes, skills and abilities as they relate to professional employment or freelance employment.
