Brief Description

During this module areas of particular personal interest are identified and pursued. Students are encouraged to build upon significant developments and acquired knowledge and skills from AD5201, particularly in respect of the content, visual language and appropriate processes in their individual studio work. This module allows those concerns to be investigated and developed at greater depth.

Indicative Syllabus

Students are encouraged to develop a coherent working method and language appropriate to their identified interests and needs, both practical and theoretical, within the broad domain of Fine Art practice. Students work with increasing independence as the module progresses. An emphasis is placed on the need for the imaginative, cultural and critical contexts of personal work to be articulated; and for the continual curiosity about the cultural context of the production of a wide range of art practices. Students achieve sufficient coherence of method, theme and visual language to prepare for Level 6 study.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of the content and core issues that define their individual work and the contexts within which their work can be located.

  3. apply methods of investigation and information gathering appropriate to their work, and a level of enquiry appropriate to Level 5,

  5. demonstrate self-motivation, the development of a sustained studio practice and the use of technical and practical skills appropriate to the engagement with ideas.
