Brief Description

Areas of particular personal interest within the disciplines of Fine Art activity are identified and pursued. Students are encouraged to challenge and re-evaluate the content, visual language and processes achieved to date in their individual studio work.

Indicative Syllabus -

Students propose a programme of study to the module tutor(s). Students begin to develop a sustained and coherent working method, theme and language. Students participate in studio-based seminars, forums, group and individual tutorials and study visits. Students are encouraged to demonstrate self-motivation and a commitment to the development of their own practice, and to be adventurous in outlook. Sound technical practice and focused critical and contextual dialogue are emphasised.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of  the context within which their practice can be located and articulate the critical and contextual issues, historical and contemporary, surrounding their work
  2. Locate the content and core issues which define their individual work and the criteria which form the basis of further investigation.
  3. Appropriate avenues of practical and theoretical investigation pertinent to their work and develop the use of materials/methods as appropriate.
  4. Demonstrate the importance of self-motivation and the development of a sustained studio practice, effectively self-managing within the parameters established by the course
  5. Demonstrate experimentation and testing of processes and ideas in relation to form
  6. Critically evaluate their own work and that of others.
  7. Develop safe and responsible working practices.
