Brief Description

This module explores the potential of outdoor advertising media and offers  advertising art directors, designers and copywriters the chance to work together on poster and ambient advertising projects.

Indicative Syllabus

The module focuses on creating concepts through to finished designs suitable for advertising outdoors and looks at how billboard, digital, guerrilla, transport and ambient media can work to exploit messaging in an external space.

Students are given the opportunity to form creative teams to work towards planning, creating and designing 'outdoor' advertising campaigns.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to:

  1. Recognise the creative and aesthetic potential of advertising outdoors and the opportunity to reach audiences via ambient media.
  2. Appreciate the objectives of advertising in terms of visual style, audience communication and working on brief to set deadlines.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to conceive ideas, manage the creative process, evaluate information and use it to plan and develop strategies for outdoor campaigns.
  4. Recognise the interrelationship of image and text within an ‘outdoor’ context and the implications for successful communication.
  5. Achieve skill development in researching, problem solving, conceptualising, copywriting, art direction and designing.
