Brief Description | The module aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of a range of contemporary debates in Visual Communication and Culture. Key contemporary works will be interrogated with reference to defined theoretical frameworks. |
Indicative Syllabus | p>The module builds upon the previous consideration in AD4003 of the production and consumption of design, images and illustration, and the communication theories and models of analysis that have developed around them. Students are guided in exploring and questioning a range of theoretical frameworks used to analyse visual culture and mass communication.
Through reflection on contemporary culture and visual communication students are asked to develop skills of visual and critical analysis and explore theoretical frameworks in order to critically respond to the work.
Developing analytical skills, academic writing and referencing skills are key elements of this module. |
Learning Outcomes | 1. Demonstrate an ability to identify principles and concepts underlying theoretical frameworks and approaches, identifying their strengths and weaknesses. 2. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate information through discourse and develop a coherent and structured academic essay that conforms to academic conventions.? 3. Reflect on own capabilities in key areas and engage in development activity through guided self-direction. Take responsibility for the quality of outputs.
