Brief Description | This is a practical module that will consist of a series of workshops and lectures designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills relevant to their practice. These will include competencies in industry standard digital production tools and processes, knowledge and understanding of current mechanical production processes, and primers in photography, image manipulation, web design, book production and moving image editing. |
Indicative Syllabus | · CMYK printing process, traditional mechanical print processes, offset litho, digital presses · Digital pre-press process, print and file output to PDF · Basic photography technology primer: using digital cameras, image manipulation, image correction, print and file output · Exploring the physical construction of books and methods of book production · Basics of website construction, design and output · Editing of moving images, with output to different platforms and applications All practical workshops will be delivered using industry standard software tools and programs. Professional terminology and methodology will be used throughout. Skills will be assessed each semester by completing task-based assignments that will demonstrate the level of competency achieved and knowledge gained.

Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1) Demonstrate a knowledge and critical understanding of the current methods, processes and terminology used by the relevant design and production processes. 2) Understand and be able to apply relevant skills to their own practice, developing a range of skills that will enhance employability and increase efficiency in completing future assignments 3) Recognise the importance of production processes in the context of their creative work and career goals and how they can affect the design, planning, budgeting and appearance of their creative output. 4) Generate evidence of competence acquired by completing task-based assignment projects.
