Brief Description

This module provides students with the opportunity to practise and evaluate realistic decision-making in a simulated business environment, taking account of internal and external information. The implications of decisions on different functional areas of an organisation are evaluated.

Indicative Syllabus

This is an integrative module, which is underpinned by business strategy. Students will also be required to evaluate the impact of decisions from an HRM, Marketing, Finance and Operations perspective.

Learning Outcomes

i. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
a) Develop policy options based on an appraisal of internal operational data and information about the external competitive environment
b) Integrate theory and principles underlying business activity with real managerial issues
c) Observe and evaluate the short and long term consequences of managerial decisions
d) Develop an understanding of the dynamic aspects of the business environment and the need to co-ordinate different business activities
e) Assess the information needs of different groups of stakeholders
f) Appreciate the nature, scope and influence of organisational culture and politics



ii. Skills
By the end of the module students should have developed skills in:
Numeracy, Problem-solving, Working with others: These skills will be developed as a result of participating in the business simulation and inputting decisions.
