Brief Description

The module aims to provide students with an understanding of how businesses develop and implement strategy, considering both external factors and internal ambitions which may impact on strategic development.

Indicative Syllabus

The module will offer students the opportunity to evaluate a business’s purpose in terms of its mission statement, objectives and critical success factors. Positional analysis will be used to evaluate governance, risk management and financial implications of alternative strategic choices for a business, and external and internal factors which could affect chosen strategies will be considered.

Learning Outcomes

A student passing this module should be able to

  1.  Identify and critically analyse the consequences of a business’s current objectives, market position and direction: (PLO1)
  2. Evaluate the likely consequences of strategic choices and recommend strategies to meet the objectives of a business,(PLO3, PLO5)
  3. Develop a business plan to achieve a business’s strategic objective, recommend an appropriate organisational structure, and evaluate the process of effective change management. (PLO5, PLO8)
