Brief Description | This module is a study of the way capital markets function and how, in particular, share prices are determined which reflect the way a company is performing and being managed. The module explores company performance through studying share price movements as they relate to concepts such as EMH, risk, governance, and behaviour. These concepts are also relevant for a number of modules in the final year. |
Indicative Syllabus | This module will take students through:: Stock Market Functions Share Price Determination Efficient Market Hypothesis Behavioural Finance Risk Portfolio Theory Assessing company performance and value |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to display: 1. An understanding of some of the contexts in which company performance is considered by capital markets. (PLO1) 2. The ability to summarise and interpret company performance through share price movements. (PLO3) 3. An understanding of the contemporary theories and empirical evidence concerning equity investment and related risk based strategies. (PLO4) 4. The ability to critically evaluate and analyse arguments and data in relation to company performance. (PLO5) 5. The skill to learn independently, including being able to find, extract and analyse data from many different sources, and acknowledge and reference these appropriately. (PLO6) 6. The ability to present quantitative and qualitative information with analysis, argument and commentary. (PLO7) |
