Brief Description | This module provides a practical introduction to the concepts, conventions and practices used in processing business transactions into general purpose financial statements to enable a critical evaluation of the role accounting information plays in decision made by users of such information. |
Indicative Syllabus | this module considers accounting concepts, books of original entry, correction of accounting errors, preparing final accounts of sole proprietorships and limited liability companies and interpreting accounting ratios. |
Learning Outcomes | A student passing this module should be able to: 1. Display an understanding of the regulatory and professional framework within which accounting operates; (PLO1) 2. Demonstrate an understanding of accounting concepts and their relevance in recording and reporting business transactions; (PLO2) 3. Evaluate accounting records to identify and correct accounting errors; (PLO3) 4. Apply accounting concepts and techniques in drafting basic financial statement for sole proprietorships and limited liability companies; (PLO2) 5. Compute and explain basic accounting ratios; (PLO3) Evaluate financial accounting information as the basis of decision making. (PLO3) |
